Thames Valley Police (TVP) is making a significant, multi-year investment in our Forensic Services and is transforming our wide array of forensic disciplines as well as crime scene investigation, to create a forward looking, accredited service which delivers proportionate, timely services that support effective crime investigation for TVP and other external organisations.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Quality Team of the Forensic Investigation Unit (FIU) as the Performance and Data Officer. Reporting to the Quality and Performance Manager, you will provide research support to the Forensic Investigation Unit (FIU), including the preparation and interpretation of management and other statistical information for internal and external use. You will also work alongside the FIU Systems Administrator to administer Forensic Investigation Unit IT systems access and permissions.

As a member of the FIU Quality Team, you will assist the Forensic Investigation Unit in the research, interpretation and presentation of management information. You will interrogate force and local databases in order to provide management and other statistical information to internal and external customers; collating and assessing the data or statistics and producing written reports as appropriate. You will also carry out ad hoc research and interpretation work as tasked by the Forensic Investigation Unit Senior Leadership Team, Assistant Management Team (AMT), and Supervisors, to assist in the delivery of effective management information to the FIU and Force.

This role will be required to maintain an excellent knowledge of the Forensic Investigation Unit’s management information systems and databases in order to promote their use and support their development and maintenance as required; developing and maintaining reports to ensure that information can be extracted from Force and local systems as efficiently and as effectively as possible. They will retrieve data and provide statistical reports in relation to Freedom of Information requests within strict deadlines to assist the Force in discharging its statutory duties, and support the Forensic Investigation Unit in managing system data to ensure compliance with GDPR and other relevant legislation, including data audit and cleansing activities.

As this role will require good technical and systems knowledge in order to extract the relevant information from Force systems, the successful candidate will need demonstrable experience of working in a similar role, with the ability and commitment to become proficient in new systems in a short time period. They will possess excellent research skills, be able to demonstrate a methodical approach when researching, and have a proven ability to collate and interpret statistical information with a high level of attention to detail. Effective written and oral communication skills will be essential, including the ability to explain technical information to a non-technical audience. They will be competent in the use of a range of IT (Information Technology) systems, including the utilisation of Management Information tools, with extensive experience of using MS Office applications (Word/Excel/ Power point). Experience working within a UKAS accredited forensic environment, while not essential, will be of benefit.
