Applications are invited from substantive Chief Superintendents or Superintendents seeking promotion who wish to be considered for the role of Detective Chief Superintendent Head of South East Counter Terrorism Unit (SECTU). The post is based near to Junction 12 of the M4, Reading (there is also secondary base near Gatwick).

Brief details of the role are as follows:

In this role you will be the Regional Head of Profession for Counter Terrorism (CT) and Domestic Extremism (DE) and the regional representative of the Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism (SNCCT). The role will involve:

  • Coordination of the delivery of the four strands of the UK’s Counter Terrorism Strategy known as “CONTEST” throughout the SE Region.

 

  • Provision of strategic direction and advice for covert and overt       CT and DE investigations and other CT matters to the SNCCT, Gold Commanders, Heads of Crime and SIOs in the SE region and other Regions as required.

 

  • Leadership of the South East CTU and overall accountability for the co-ordination of CT assets in the region.

 

  • The specific delivery of the Pursue and Prevent strands of CONTEST and support to Protect and Prepare within the South East region.

 

  • Support to the South West CTIU in line with the CT Network buddying arrangements.

 

  • The management of change programmes and projects, including the development of appropriate supporting strategies and policies.

Selection Process

  • The Selection Panel will include Francis Habgood, Chief Constable Thames Valley Police, Dr Steven Chase, Director of People Thames Valley Police and an Assistant Chief Constable (TBC).

  • Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the written application.

     

  • Candidates will be asked to give a 10 minute presentation, following a 45 minute preparation period.

     

  • The presentation will be followed by an interview which will address issues raised in the presentation before exploring wider topics.

     

  • The Panel will be making their assessment against the six behaviours included in the Competency and Values Framework (CVF).

     

  • The Selection Panels will take place on Monday 13 March 2017 afternoon and Friday 17 March 2017.
