For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants who do not hold or acquire appropriate security clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals.

Applications are sought from Police Constables or Detective Constables to work with the South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT), working in partnership to identify and disrupt extremism and serious and organised crime within the South East Prison Estate.

The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from the Prison Service and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and serious organised crime.

Prison Intelligence Officers (PIOs) are expected to work within the regional establishments and, together with the Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) shall identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders.

In addition to working to identified national and regional priorities, PIOs are the gateway between law enforcement and the prison service and will provide support, advice and expertise in relation to all prison related matters.

In order to focus on the highest priorities within the region, PIOs may need to travel to different establishments to deliver services effectively. PIOs will be expected to carry a caseload of intelligence developments and will be accountable for the progress of these developments.

You will have experience in a broad arena of intelligence including risk assessment, intelligence development and quality assurance. You will also have experience of intelligence systems and procedures together with associated legislation

You may be required to travel for business purposes on occasion and demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours. You must be prepared to be security cleared to an enhanced level.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary.
