Domestic Abuse (DAIU) & Stalking:

DAIU staff investigate all domestic abuse offences where the risk to the victim has been assessed as high, ranging from a battery through to attempted murder. The unit deal with serious sexual offences and rape within a domestic setting. In certain circumstances they may offer investigative advice around standard and medium risk cases especially where the offence and surrounding circumstances are serious and complex. 

The unit also specialises in dealing with stalking offences which are assessed as high risk, whether or not they occur within a domestic context. They may also deal with specific neglect offences which occur in care homes or within a care settings and decisions are made on a case by case basis. 

Staff within the unit also contribute to the Multi-Agency Tasking and Co-ordination (MATAC) process for the force and manage the disruption of the most serious and persistent offenders through Operation Vocal joint working with the Joint Operations Unit (JOU).

Role Profile - Detective Constable - DAIU:

In this role, you will be responsible for the management and reduction of risk posed by domestic abuse offenders to high and medium risk victims. The investigation of allegations of domestic abuse where the victim is identified as at high risk or cases where circumstances deem it appropriate.

Principle Responsibilities: 

  • Promptly investigate domestic abuse allegations using the full range of investigative techniques and technology available to reduce and detect crime by bringing offenders to justice.
  • Conduct ABE video Interviews with victims of domestic abuse.
  • Prioritise investigations and manage a caseload maintaining prompt and accurate records of actions within the IMM on Cedar, providing an audit trail and evidencing engagement in the MARAC process and full compliance with the victim and witness charter.
  • Interview witnesses and suspects in accordance with National guidelines and current policy.
  • Prompt submission of intelligence and information collected in the course of investigations. Thorough research and development of intelligence disseminated to an investigation.
  • Work with Social care and Partner Agencies to reduce the risk of harm and ensure the welfare of victims and children. Attending strategy meetings and case conferences where appropriate or directed.
  • Reduce the risk of harm posed by offenders to high risk victims and where appropriate medium risk victims reducing the number of repeat victims.
  • Prepare case files of a satisfactory grading or higher in consultation with CPS ensuring a timely response to requests for further work and defence statements.

If you are currently in a Force critical post, there is an expectation that you will remain in that post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles (or 18 months for custody sergeants).
