Introduction
This opportunity is aimed at officers who are interested in Acting/Secondment opportunities in ICR as a Response Sergeant at any one of the Berkshire East LCU stations.
Successful applications will be placed into a recruitment pool for 6 months. During this time as/when Sgt – ICR vacancies arises in Berkshire East LCU, officers will be contacted by ICR SMT and posted to that vacancy.
While in the pool, all officers are eligible to apply for other Career Pathways roles.
Please note the following:
- All postings will be subject to TVPs Police Officer Posting Guidance and approval from T&R.
- All posting durations will be dictated by Berkshire East ICR SMT, with approval from Workforce Planning. All postings will have the possibility for extension.
- If you have applied to the recent PC-Sgt Promotion process and were successful, these postings will not count as your promotion. Promotion postings will be handled separately and by the Promotions Team.
- Berkshire East ICR SMT and Workforce Planning reserve the right withdraw a posting in the event of extenuating circumstances (a vacancy no longer exists, PSD restrictions etc.)
Not everyone will be posted straight away. At present we unfortunately cannot say when or where postings will be made, nor can we guarantee that everyone will receive a posting. All postings will be made based on current and projected vacancies over the foreseeable future.
Postings will be made based on a number of factors, such as: Officers individual circumstance, location compared with where officers live and organisational need. Scores from the assessment process will only be a factor where all other considerations are equal. Applications are invited from Substantive Sergeants and will also be invited from Substantive Constables looking for Acting opportunities
This role is not suitable for the WBA.

Role Profile: Sergeant – ICR
In this role, you will be responsible for the provision of daily supervision, leadership, guidance and support of Constables. Co-ordination, monitoring and response to frontline policing activity and investigations.
Principle Responsibilities: :
- Oversee and support investigations through application of Op Endeavour principles, ensuring quality supervision through regular reviews of investigations and files, ensuring crime data integrity and Victim’s Codes of Practice are complied with, thus enabling prompt and effective prosecutions and victim-focused outcomes.
- Develop all staff, through regular reviews and one-to-ones, supporting their own personal professional development and that of their team, agreeing appropriate activities and plans to enable potential progression and acquisition of professional skills, through inclusion and diversity. Implement and support appropriate interventions when required.
- Support interoperability between teams, departments and the wider organisation. Develop meaningful and long-term partnerships to increase the capability of the department and LCU.
- Provide proactive wellbeing and welfare support for those on the team, ensuring appropriate care is available and accessible to all.
- Manage threat, risk and harm, identify vulnerabilities and ensure all safeguarding opportunities are met and progressed.
- Provision of visible and effective leadership, assuming the role of Bronze Command at serious /major incidents, Identify potential / actual critical incidents, take proactive service recovery steps to restore the confidence in the force as well as securing and preserving evidence for the investigation.
- Monitor and manage the performance of the team and individuals, promoting professional standards of behaviour and utilising training, welfare support and discipline where necessary to effect change and motivate our staff.
Essential Role Based Training:
- Annual recertification in officer safety training and job related fitness test (JRFT).
- Emergency Services Trauma Intervention Procedures (ESTIP).
- Completion of Core Leadership Development Program.
- Maintain accreditation in First Aid.
Essential Training Prior to Appointment:
- Core Leadership programme.

Important Guidance for Applicants:
If you are currently in a Force critical post, there is an expectation that you will remain in that post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles (or 18 months for custody sergeants).
Candidates may be required to pass vetting and OHU or attend assessments and courses for this role. If any of these are failed the candidate will be posted back to their previous position. Postings are determined in accordance with organisational need although consideration will be given to personal circumstances.
