In this role, you will be responsible for effectively and efficiently supervising a team of officers and staff who investigate, detect and reduce crime (CMF Red Box) ensuring effective performance delivery and quality of service in accordance with Force and AIU priorities.

Skills/Experience:

  • The role will focus on Red Box offences within the AIU so expertise in the management of quality investigations of this nature will be of benefit.

Principle Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate the prompt and effective response to & investigation of crime including more serious and complex crime/ Red Box offences as well as oversight of investigation quality. Ensure investigators utilise the full range of investigative techniques and technology available to detect and reduce crime. Regularly review the progress of investigations and ensure that victims and witnesses are updated and supported to maintain engagement and comply with the victims’ charter.
  • Supervise the effective response to crimes, optimise forensic opportunities, ensure that the integrity of evidence is preserved and continuity recorded.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of investigations. Conduct regular supervisory reviews in NICHE setting investigative actions, ensuring compliance with the victim and witness charter.
  • Prioritise investigations based upon Threat, Harm Opportunity and Risk and Victim Impact (THOR+VP). Monitor team and officer workloads ensuring appropriately skilled staff are allocated investigations cognisant to their skill set.
  • Ensure OICs maintain contact with and update victims of crime, providing support throughout the investigation and prosecution process. Ensure that vulnerable victims and witnesses are identified and supported and that appropriate Safeguarding measures are in place.
  • Provide first line management to investigative teams, ensuring that officers and staff are properly equipped to deliver against our priorities through provision of training, coaching and appropriate tools. Monitor and assess individual and team performance and provide effective and timely feedback and coaching to continually improve the quality of investigations and victim service.
  • Promote evidence based best practise in investigation, providing guidance in the preparation of prosecution files, exhibit handling, suspect and witness interviews, disclosure and forensic strategies.
  • Ensure that ethical crime recording is maintained throughout all investigations ensuring compliance with NCRS/HOCR.
  • Ensure intelligence and information collected in the course of investigations is submitted promptly for onward dissemination and that intelligence disseminated to an investigation is thoroughly researched and developed.
  • Promote effective working with internal and external departments/ partners to maximise investigative opportunities and quality of service.
  • Maintain an overview of resource availability against demand. Manage the spontaneous movement or absence of resources in order to maintain an effective response to crime.

If you are currently in a Force critical post, there is an expectation that you will remain in that post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles (or 18 months for custody sergeants).

Candidates may be required to pass vetting and OHU or attend assessments and courses for this role. If any of these are failed the candidate will be posted back to a response role on an LPA.
