In this role you will use Problem Solving methodology to develop plans and tactics to reduce crime and harm. Work in conjunction with Local Authority, third sector and community partners to deliver LPA, Force and community priorities.

Support the geographic neighbourhood team to build community resilience and increase public involvement in Problem Solving policing. Using recognised problem solving techniques, proactive operations and evidence based policing, you will collaborate with residents, businesses and partners to address issues associated with high demand locations and individuals.

You must be passionate about seeking long-term, sustainable, innovative solutions to deep-seated issues. You will need to be dedicated, flexible and able to work with minimal supervision. You will also need to be able to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners in order to generate their commitment and support.

Working as part of the Problem Solving Team provides a blend of proactive, investigative and preventative policing; working with internal, statutory partners and voluntary sector organisations; which combine to provide an excellent opportunity for personal development.

The role can be considered for appropriate adjusted duties officers.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Use OSARA principles within the problem solving team to ensure Community based solutions are employed to tackle priority crimes, reduce crime and deliver safeguarding through Early Intervention, Prevention and enforcement. Using diversion and disruption address ‘persistent and resistant’ demand in relation to repeat locations, individuals and offenders.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners, statutory and voluntary, to identify and resolve problems using a problem solving approach to deliver coordinated, targeted enforcement, diversion and disruption activities as appropriate.
  • Work with communities and partners and direct and monitor the work of the team in order to build resilience and develop problem solving capability and capacity within the community
  • Ensure Problem Solving activity is recorded in line with the OSARA assessment guidance. Manage risk management occurrences and investigations in line with Operational Guidance.
  • Work collaboratively with communities and partners and plan and deliver Problem Solving based policing, partnership and community operations in order to reduce crime and harm.
  • Develop and deliver specialist problem solving plans and tactics as required in support of LPA priorities such as CCE, Schools and Domestic Abuse.
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of developments in the theory and practice of Problem Solving including APP, College of Policing guidance and evidence based practice and ensure team members maintain an up to date CPD.

Essential Training Prior to Appointment:

  • OST (suitable for modified OST)
  • Police Driver (Response would be preferable but not essential)
  • Competent in police computer systems relevant to the role.

If you are currently in a Force critical post, there is an expectation that you will remain in that post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles (or 18 months for custody sergeants).
