Applications are invited from substantive Sergeants and will be invited from substantive constables through a promotion board but not yet promoted.

In this role, you will be responsible for promoting Force wide best practice in dealing with victims of serious sexual assault, aligning with the principles of the National Operating Model. You will also supervise and support the SOLO team of PCs and PSIs and work with SARC providers to ensure best practice in forensic medical examinations and maintenance of SARC.

Principle Responsibilities: 

  • To identify best practice in dealing with victims of serious sexual assault across the Force through training and support. To liaise with the investigative team for joint working.
  • To work with partners including CPS, NHS England and the SARC provider to ensure a joined up approach to dealing with victims of serious sexual assault.
  • To look after the wellbeing of the SOLO Team on an individual and group level. To identify and support SOLOs in an appropriate way given the geographical location and hybrid working.
  • To ensure the Force has an on call SOLO available at all times to deal with victims of serious sexual assaults by managing the SOLO duties.
  • To maintain CPD for the SOLOs and ensure they receive relevant training and accreditation for sexual offence investigations.
  • To monitor the management of victim care for serious sexual assault victims.
  • To review the quality of VRIs and MG11s to ensure relevant evidence captured correctly. To align with Investigative Skills to drive this through ongoing peer to peer review and ad hoc training. To support the SOLOs as subject matter experts in this area.

Essential Training Prior to Appointment: 

  • PIP2 accreditation
  • VRI

Psychological screening:

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake the established psychological screening process.

If you are currently in a Force critical post, there is an expectation that you will remain in that post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles (or 18 months for custody sergeants).

Candidates may be required to pass vetting and OHU or attend assessments and courses for this role. If any of these are failed the candidate will be posted back to a response role on an LPA. Postings are determined in accordance with organisational need although consideration will be given to personal circumstances.
