Acting - Detective Sergeant - DAIU

Location: Milton Keynes

Expected Start Date: 1st May 2024 (Please note that start dates will be subject to impact assessment with T&R)

Duration: 4 Months (Please note that end dates are subject to change and, depending on the needs of the department, may be extended or reduced)

Purpose of Role:

The management and reduction of risk posed by domestic abuse offenders to high risk victims. The investigation of allegations of domestic abuse where the victim is identified as at high risk or cases where circumstances deem it appropriate. The investigation of domestic rape and serious sexual assault.

Skills/ Experience:

  • Must be PIP2.
  • Experience of DAIU would be desirable.
  • Should form part of a promotion plan and be evidenced in the CPD section of the PDR.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Promptly allocate investigations of domestic abuse allegations ensuring the allocated officer utilises the full range of investigative techniques and technology available to reduce and detect crime thereby bringing offenders to justice.
  • Conduct VRIs with victims of domestic abuse.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of investigations. Conduct regular supervisory reviews in Niche setting investigative actions, ensuring engagement in the MARAC process and full compliance with the Victims’ Code.
  • Quality assure interviews of witnesses and suspects in accordance with National guidelines and current policy.
  • Promote prompt submission of intelligence and information collected in the course of investigations. Ensure case officers thoroughly research and develop intelligence disseminated to an investigation.
  • Work with Social care and Partner Agencies to reduce the risk of harm and ensure the welfare of victims and children. Attending strategy meetings and case conferences where appropriate or directed.
  • Supervise and manage the reduction of risk of harm posed by offenders to high risk victims and where appropriate medium risk victims to reduce the number of repeat victims.

Essential Role-Based Training:

  • National Investigators Exam (NIE), National Detective Training
  • Programme –Investigators Development Programme (IDP) 
  • PIP 2 Accreditation

If you are currently in a Force critical post, there is an expectation that you will remain in that post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles (or 18 months for custody sergeants).

Candidates may be required to pass vetting and OHU or attend assessments and courses for this role. If any of these are failed the candidate will be posted back to a response role on an LPA. Postings are determined in accordance with organisational need although consideration will be given to personal circumstances.

Psychological screening - The successful applicant will be expected to undertake the established psychological screening process.

Application should take the form of a ‘why me, why now' letter, which must be typed using Arial font size 12 and be no more than 2 sides of A4 with  the margins not modified from the standard 2.54cm.

The form requires a statement and signature from your immediate line manager and your department’s chief inspector/superintendent, regardless of whether they are on the Shortlisting Panel. Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner.
