Thames Valley Police
Secondment/Fixed Term Contract until 4th September 2026.
Thames Valley Police (TVP) is making a significant, multi-year investment in our Forensic Services and is transforming our wide array of forensic disciplines to create a forward-looking service, which delivers proportionate, timely outcomes that support effective crime investigation for TVP and other external organisations. Our investment includes developing our people, making best use of technology and creating a Centre of Excellence for the future:
As part of this transformation, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Forensic Investigation Unit (FIU) as a Forensic Administrator based in Kidlington in Oxfordshire (eventually moving to Bicester, Oxfordshire in Spring/Summer of 2026). Working alongside FIU personnel, you will provide clerical and technical support to a number of Forensic teams, including Forensic Laboratories. You will ensure the integrity and continuity of forensic evidence and present a professional interface between FIU and its customers. In addition, you will carry out quality assurance checks and deal with enquiries and tasks of a technical nature relating to specific forensic disciplines such as Forensic Biology, Drugs, Footwear and Toolmarks.
In this unique role, you will form part of a dynamic team, responding to changing priorities in line with investigative requirements. Flexibility to manage, and respond to operational demands is key. The successful candidate will have a high level of interpersonal skills and attention to detail. The role may require you to deal with potentially difficult and unpleasant subject matter and situations, in support of the organisational requirement to secure detections and convictions.
If you are a permanent member of staff applying for this role, please note it will be offered on a secondment basis. Important: All secondments must be supported in writing by your line manager and Head of Department/Commander or Deputy. Please send approval to RecruitmentPoliceStaff@thamesvalley.police.uk on submission of your application. If the secondment is not supported then a strong business rationale must be sent to RecruitmentPoliceStaff@thamesvalley.police.uk quoting the reference number for the role, on submission of application.
Please note: Shift allowance, on-call or other job related allowances from the previous role will not be protected unless they are attached to the new role for the duration of the secondment.
As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 24 days annual leave per annum, pro-rata for part time (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, career development opportunities and have the option to join a local government pension scheme.
