This is an exciting opportunity where you will undertake the role of Detective Sergeant within the Dedicated Source Unit (Near Gatwick) in the Counter Terrorism Policing South East Region. The successful candidate will be based in the Surrey and Sussex area but will support South East priorities and beyond.

We are looking for highly motivated colleagues who are innovative and open minded who have an inquisitive and outwards looking nature who can work within a highly sensitive area of Policing. You will have proven intelligence experience.  

You will work closely in support of MI5 and the National CT Policing Network. The successful candidate will support covert intelligence gathering investigations utilising techniques provided through professional development courses.

This opportunity would a dynamic individual who can bring their experience to an established team. The role requires flexibility in working patterns, short notice shift changes and a requirement to take part in a Controller’s on-call rota across the South East. In turn, we can offer flexibility with working locations and hours.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to Developed Vetting (DV) level. Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals. This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.

All vacancies of Sergeant and above are advertised to substantive and on promotion applicants at the same time; there are different application requirements for Substantive Officers and those Officers applying for Promotion. If you wish to apply you need to have support from Head of Command / Department. Hampshire officers need to complete an AD277 alongside their application.

Substantive officers will be shortlisted against the Essential Criteria and should submit an online application form. You will be required to upload your latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent copy of your CPD record) and a copy of your Training Record. You will be also required to upload the Recommendation for Appointment Form (enclosed with the Job Advert) in the ‘Line Managers Approval Form’.

In addition to this information, officers applying on promotion should also submit a ‘Why Me, Why Now’ letter which outlines your motivation and suitability for the role at this time. Your evidence should also demonstrate the relevant behaviours, skills, knowledge and experience in relation to your capability at this rank in accordance with the Step Up core competencies (CVF). The letter must be no more than two (2) sides of A4. The margins must not be modified from 2.54cm. All evidence outside the margins should be removed. You will also be required to upload your latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent CPD record) and the Police Officer Promotion Reference Form.
