Thames Valley Police is looking for a confident, experienced physical development and personal safety trainer to join their Physical Development Team in their Learning & Professional Development department.

Engaged communities are central to the detection, prevention and reduction of crime and help us to maintain public safety. It is vital that we sustain and build public confidence in the police, and also ensure our officers and staff are equipped and confident to police effectively.

In this role, you will working as part of a wider team delivering all aspects of the National Personal Safety Training Portfolio, including teaching the proportionate and legitimate use of force; carrying out Fitness Testing and Wellbeing support; and creating development programmes for Officers and staff to ensure they have the skills, knowledge and experience to safely carry out their roles and duties.

To join our team, you will have a minimum of a Fitness related Level 3 qualification or higher (Premier Diploma, YMCA or equivalent); have proven and recent experience of coaching or teaching groups (fitness related gym instruction in isolation is not considered appropriate or relevant experience), which ideally will also include experience of delivering presentations and classroom based training.

You will need to demonstrate experience of sound decision making, together with strong interpersonal, written, and oral skills; and an ability to communicate ideas and information effectively and adapt your style to suit your audience. A clear understanding of integrity and a mature approach to work, coupled with high levels of commitment, enthusiasm and creativity are critical to this role. You should enjoy working as part of a team but have the motivation to work independently and the ability to think on your feet.

Significant and recent experience in the delivery of Personal Safety Training (PST) to Police Officers/Staff or a relevant equivalent would be a distinct advantage.

You will predominately be based at our Force Personal Safety Training Centre at Sulhamstead, however a flexible approach to working hours (including some weekend working) and the ability to travel to different locations within the force is essential.

Selection for this position will occur in mid-August and this will include a one day Assessment Centre followed by a second round of interviews.

As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 22-30 days annual leave per annum (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, performance related pay increases, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, career development opportunities and have the option to join a local government pension scheme.
