Thames Valley Police (TVP) is making a significant, multi-year investment in our Forensic Services and is transforming our wide array of forensic disciplines as well as crime scene investigation, to create a forward looking, accredited service which delivers proportionate, timely services that support effective crime investigation for TVP and other external organisations. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the CSI Team of the Forensic Investigation Unit (FIU) as a CSI Training Officer. Reporting to the CSI Technical Supervisor, you will play an integral part in the delivery of stage 1 and 2 training to CSIs as well as supporting CPD and other training events, whilst maintaining competency as a CSI Practitioner.

You will assist in driving forward continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to the operational performance of the CSI team and its compliance with the Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes. You will assist in the roll-out and compliance of standards as set out within ISO: 17020 Accreditation for Volume Crime Scene Examination activities across all 6 CSI hubs (and serious and major crime in due course).

The successful candidate will already possess substantial CSI experience and have a wide knowledge of the application of Forensic Science, in order to support investigations and to pass this onto others. They will also possess excellent communication skills in order to deliver effective training and be able to assess the progress of team members at both Tier 1 and 2 levels. The post will involve carrying out the role of a CSI on a full range of operational duties when not engaged on training related duties (approximately 50% of the time). 

Whilst these positions may be required to work extended hours on occasion, they are not expected to regularly work unsocial hours, weekends or to be available on call outside of normal office hours. 

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the established psychological screening process.

Along with all other posts in Force Crime, Intelligence and Specialist Operations Departments, this role will require an enhanced level of vetting.
