Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Bucks

Neighbourhood Policing
Aylesbury, Chiltern & South Buckinghamshire, High Wycombe, Milton Keynes
Band 2E, circa £20,038 per annum plus shift allowance (dependent on hours). Progression based on performance
Full Time
Permanent

You can’t arrest anyone. You’ve got no handcuffs. Your communication and problem solving skills are your most powerful weapons. It’s down to your ability to work with some of the most challenging people in some of the most difficult situations.

You do not jump to conclusions about what you see and hear – you target crime hotspots, analysing situations and gathering evidence.

Your very presence on the streets inspires confidence.

As a PCSO, you are performing one of the most demanding roles in policing. It is an essential role, the face of the police within local communities. You won’t only make a difference, you will be the difference, preventing trouble and making your community safer and stronger.

You are confident, resilient and comfortable dealing with all sections of the community. You express yourself calmly and clearly, make decisions, solve problems and work with a wide range of colleagues. A positive character with a professional approach, you act with integrity and treat individuals with respect.

There is no typical day as a PCSO – you could be holding a meeting with concerned local residents, dealing with anti-social behavior or be first on scene at a road traffic collision. Ultimately, you will be part of a team who are committed to working together to ensure the Force delivers on its promises of making communities safer and of driving down crime. We believe it’s one of the most rewarding jobs, but don’t just take our word for it, apply today and experience it.

Requirements

You will be IT-literate, full of initiative and ready to patrol neighbourhoods (on foot or by bicycle). English Language or Literature at GCSE Grade 9-4 or equivalent (e.g. GCSE A-C, English language level 2), or a higher academic qualification, is required. Please note that if you have submitted an application for the role of Police Officer (or if you submit an application at a future date) then your PCSO application will be put on hold until the outcome of the Police Officer application is known. You will be required to complete 12 months’ service in the role of PCSO before you can apply to become a Police Officer.

Training

You will complete an eight-week course of formal training. This is undertaken on a full-time basis at the Thames Valley Police Training Centre in Sulhamstead. It’s designed to give you a solid understanding in the essentials of a PCSO's role and powers. You’ll then be deployed to a police station – this marks the beginning of your Thames Valley Police career.

Successful candidates will go into a recruitment pool to fill planned PCSO intakes for May - December 2018, subject to vacancies.

If you have any queries please contact People Services Recruitment Department on 0845 2 66 66 77 quoting reference 1234.

The closing date for enquiries and receipt of completed applications is Sunday 1st April 2018

Please only submit one application for your chosen location e.g. Bucks, Berks or Oxon.
