As a Prevent Officer, you will support the Prevent strand of the counter terrorism strategy by connecting counter terrorism policing, neighbourhood policing and communities.

We have a permanent vacancy available, as well as a 12 month fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity.

The role will be working with internal and external partners to develop and deliver local Prevent action plans as well as:

  • Working to signpost individuals vulnerable to radicalisation
  • Coordinating the delivery of Prevent across the wider policing family;
  • Supporting front line staff and acting as community contact for any counter terrorism consequence management issues
  • Managing the workload through Prevent Case Management enquiries
  • Conducting vulnerability assessments
  • Working with partners on community impact assessments
  • Contributing to neighbourhood mapping within the counter terrorism context;
  • providing tactical advice to counter senior investigating officers on Prevent options and capability.
  • Working as part of a Gateway Process to manage referrals in the South East Region.

We are looking for a candidate with good numeracy, literacy and IT skills. You will also have excellent communication/interpersonal skills and experience/understanding of working with diverse communities and partnership working.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to enhanced level. Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals. This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.
