About Us

Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTP SE) – Working to keep people safe from the threat of terrorism.

Who are we?

CT Border Policing (BP) officers are at the front line of protecting national security from the threats posed by Terrorism and Hostile Acts by Foreign States at the borders and ports of Surrey and Sussex.

Our CT BP officers are tasked to manage the known and unknown threats posed by individuals and groups seeking to travel across borders in furtherance of terrorism.

About the role

The role is intrinsic to the UK Counter Terrorism Strategy and supporting the British Intelligence Services including MI5 and MI6 in mitigating the threat to UK interests at home and abroad.

The successful candidate will work closely with national and regional policing units,  external partners (such as UK Border Force, Immigration Enforcement, the NCA), security partners and other relevant businesses as part of the role of overseeing and leading counter terrorism and safeguarding operations at the UK border.

This role involves supervising a team of BP officers and working closely with UK Border Force, Gatwick Airport staff, Gatwick Police, National Crime Agency and British Intelligence Services. The successful candidate will gather and supervise the submission of quality intelligence in relation to terrorism, extremism and serious and organised crime.

We have two opportunities available two based at our Gatwick site and the other Hampshire. Please note that candidates who are applying for the Hampshire post, will be placed in a pool until Hampshire position is made available.

There will be an opportunity in the application form to specify the location/role you are applying.

About you

This opportunity is open to substantive Police/Detective Sergeants and those Sergeants suitably qualified to apply for promotion.

We are seeking to appoint a candidate with excellent communication/interpersonal skills, good partnership working and effective leadership abilities.

At CTP SE, we are committed to better reflect the communities that we serve.  We encourage applications from our under represented communities including all ethnic or religious backgrounds, LGBTQ+, women and those with disabilities.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to enhanced level.  Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals.  This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for purposes of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.
