An exciting opportunity has arisen, to join the CTP SE Prevent Team. Prevent is one part of the United Kingdom’s counter-terrorism strategy (CONTEST) and aims to stop people from being exposed to extreme ideologies, or becoming involved in or supporting terrorist activity.

We welcome applications from substantive Sergeants and Constables suitably qualified for promotion.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual, who is responsive to change, has an inquisitive mind set and possesses evidence of strong partnership working to safeguard vulnerable people.  Strong presentation and communication skills are required.

You will be supervising a team of CT Prevent Case officers responsible for the safeguarding and prevention of subject’s being drawn into terrorism. You will work with partners to address vulnerabilities and work with subjects who have previously been radicalised. You will be responsible for presenting cases at meetings consisting of external partners.

The role of the Prevent Sergeant is wide-ranging and includes;

Manage all Prevent referrals using established policies and processes (including Channel) within the national timescale framework.

Support CTCOs in their work with partners, in their delivery of safeguarding measures, including participation in social care strategy discussions/meetings and attendance at MAPPA panels.

Highlight opportunities for partners to instigate powers at their disposal to disrupt and deter persons believed to be extremists or vulnerable to radicalisation who, due to their level of perceived radicalisation or extremism, are not suitable for voluntary engagement or support programmes such as Channel.

To identify and maintain relationships with key individuals, institutions and groups within the community in order to promote Prevent, instil public confidence and enable an effective assessment of impact and response to CTP events and activity.

Support partners through the provision of targeted training or engagement in order to improve their awareness, organisational plans and decision making. 

Manage investigative caseloads, setting actions and quality assurance, seeking judicial outcomes.

There will be weekend working requirements on a rotational basis and flexibility is required to be able to respond at short notice to exigencies of duty.

Agile working arrangements will be considered and there is scope to work across Hampshire as well as the rest of the region.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.  

Security is of paramount importance to us due to the nature of the role. You need to be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years.  Exemptions apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.  You will be required to successfully pass and maintain the relevant security clearance in order to perform the role.

  • Kent Officers will need to inform HR Resource Planning at the earliest opportunity of intention to apply.   Every Officer application form must be signed by the Chief Supt or police staff equivalent and sent to HR Resource Planning no later than 5 working days prior to closing date unless exceptional circumstances apply. This is required so that Chief Officer approval can be obtained for the application to progress, which will be managed by HR Resource Planning.  These steps must be completed prior to submission application.  If your application for an opportunity is not approved prior to submission to the recruiting organisation you may not be supported for release to the role, should you be successful.
  • Officers from other forces are welcome to apply. You may wish to consult with your HR team regarding completion of additional forms.

Substantive officers will be shortlisted against the Essential Criteria and should submit an online application form.  You will be required to upload your latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent copy of your CPD record/Focus Feedback meeting) and a copy of your Training Record. You will be also required to upload the Recommendation for Appointment Form (enclosed with the Job Advert) in the ‘Line Managers Approval Form’. Thames Valley Police (TVP) officers who have already passed the TVP Promotion, can apply as a substantive (above application requirements). 

In addition to this information, officers applying on promotion should also submit a ‘Why Me, Why Now’ letter which outlines your motivation and suitability for the role at this time. Your evidence should also demonstrate the relevant behaviours, skills, knowledge and experience in relation to your capability at this rank in accordance with the core competencies (CVF) Step up Criteria. The letter must be no more than two (2) sides of A4. The margins must not be modified from 2.54cm. All evidence outside the margins should be removed. You will also be required to upload your latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent CPD record//Focus Feedback meeting) and the Police Officer Promotion Reference Form.
