Applications are invited from substantive Constables to join the TVP Dedicated Surveillance Teams as a Surveillance Motorcyclist.

This challenging, rewarding and sought after role requires applicants who can demonstrate an interest in proactive intelligence-related policing. In addition they should be willing to work in a committed and flexible way in a team environment, demonstrating transferable skills/ experience pertinent to the role of a Surveillance Officer.  

The role of a Dedicated Surveillance Officer will bring Officers into direct contact with the public, there may be occasions whereby officers will need to intervene and arrest or protect people/property. Additionally the role can include occasions whereby officers are on foot for long periods of time or conversely secreted in locations whereby movement would give them away. To that end Officers interested in the role would need to be of appropriate fitness. The minimum standard for those applying would be to have passed the Force Annual Fitness Test and Officer Safety Training.

Candidates applying for this role must be SC/MV vetted, Q1 Mobile Surveillance trained and current, Q2 Surveillance Motorcyclist trained and current as well as have completed an Advanced Motorbike Course to a standard recognised by the College of Policing (A riding assessment may be required prior to an offer of appointment)

Candidates need to be willing to be part of an on call rota and will be expected on occasions to work long and unsociable hours.

All roles are available for flexible working including job sharing and part-time unless there are legitimate operational / business reasons why this cannot be accommodated.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary.
