Fixed Term Contract/Secondment for 12 months

Part time, 24 hours per week

In this newly created role you will provide robust and effective referral processes to support people bereaved and affected by suicide in the Thames Valley area. You will ensure those eligible for referral are contacted in a timely manner and monitor this. You will share relevant information with partners, liaise regularly with local services and mental health providers and access support from other agencies. You will develop and maintain a collaborative working relationship with the Coroner’s offices as well as raising awareness of support available. You will be required to participate in suicide prevention meetings, ensure data is recorded securely and accurately reported, plus help to coordinate training for yourself and colleagues.

The successful candidate would need to have an understanding of the impact of suicide, the requirements of bereaved relatives and would need to use counselling skills and be able to provide practical/emotional support. You must be able to communicate at all levels and be able to maintain strong relationships with partners. Contact with the bereaved and the referral process is telephone based, therefore an excellent telephone manner is required with the ability to remain calm and have a considered approach whilst remaining compassionate and providing the relevant support or information. Recent experience of conducting roles with the utmost integrity and exhibiting confidentiality is essential whilst being able to work in occasionally difficult circumstances and show resilience. Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and diary management. You will be required to travel to different locations across Thames Valley and undertake all assignments in a timely manner, being available to work flexibly and at short notice from different locations where required. For this reason a full UK driving licence is considered essential.
