An exciting opportunity is available for a number of Police Constables to join SEROCU’s investigation teams. You will deliver the tactical response to serious and organised crime across the South East region. SEROCU are expanding the investigation capacity. The advertised posts will be across a number of SEROCU locations as well as a number of future predicated vacancies at these sites which include posts within Sussex and Thames Valley.

We are seeking officers from a wide variety of experience and backgrounds. There is no requirement to having previously worked in covert policing or serious and organised crime- but commitment, flexibility and proactivity is a must. For the successful candidates we can provide you the right skills and fantastic development opportunities.

These Police Constable roles will be Omni-competent, conducting a wide variety of tasks to support investigations, deliver disruptions and support successful prosecutions. Part of your role will be to conduct surveillance in order to gather intelligence and evidence; targeting suspected criminals at all levels of criminality.

The application process is staged. The initial stage is the submission of your application, a panel will then short list the application against the set criteria. You will then be required to attend a 2 day College Of Policing National Surveillance Pre-Select on 17-18th November 2021. During this assessment your potential to pass a National Surveillance course will be judged. This will involve exercises on multi-tasking, map reading, and observation skills; amongst other things.

Those candidates that already hold a current Q1 Qualification will not be required to undertake the pre-select.

Those candidates that are successful at Pre-select, or currently hold the Q1 Qualification, will then be invited to interview. If successful at the interview stage, those that are not already qualified will then be required to attend a range of training courses dependent on skill set:

  • Driving courses (Standard & Advanced)
  • Q3 Foot Surveillance (2 weeks)
  • Q1 National Surveillance Course (5 weeks).
  • Operational Competence Period (6-12 months)

 Candidates will need to obtain the relevant qualifications within an agreed period and subject to the availability of courses.

Candidates need to be available to attend the pre-select on 17-18 November 2021.

At SEROCU, we are committed to better reflect the communities that we serve.  We encourage applications from our under represented communities including all ethnic or religious backgrounds, LGBTQ+, women and those with disabilities.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to enhanced level.  In line with Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), candidates who fail to hold, acquire or maintain this vetting level cannot be offered the post.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.

Drop in briefing sessions will be held led on Microsoft Teams on the following dates;

  • 24th August @ 11.00hrs
  • 25th August @11.00 hrs

SEROCU will also be holding a number of sessions where you can meet representatives from a number of departments in person to discuss our work and current and future opportunities. These will be advertised shortly.
