Communicating to the public performs a critical role during emergencies; whether severe weather such as flooding, critical incidents such as wide-scale loss of water or power supplies, or health emergencies such as Covid-19.

The Thames Valley Local Resilience Forum (TVLRF) is a multi-agency partnership made up of representatives from local public services, including the emergency services, local authorities, the NHS, the Environment Agency and others.

It plans for emergencies, working with partner organisations to advise the public of risks before an emergency, and coordinating and publishing essential public information for major incidents across the Thames Valley.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the TVLRF with the creation of a new stakeholder engagement and communications officer role. You will work with communications teams and emergency planners from across partner organisations to review how teams work together to warn and inform the public. You will review existing communications channels, update critical communications materials and manage the development of a new website. You’ll work closely with the TVLRF Executive Group, making recommendations for development to them, and implementing changes.

You will need relevant stakeholder engagement and communications experience along with excellent interpersonal, networking and influencing skills. The ability to identify improvements to communications processes and implement change across teams/organisations is desired, as well as excellent writing skills for a variety of audiences. Experience of website development is an advantage, however a solid understanding of what makes a great website and how to create engaging content will be sufficient.

As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 22-30 days annual leave per annum pro-rata for part time (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, career development opportunities and have the option to join a local government pension scheme. If you are a permanent member of staff applying for this role, please note it will be offered on a secondment basis. Important: All secondments are assumed supported and that your line manager and Head of Department/Commander or Deputy are aware of your intention to apply. If the secondment is not supported then a strong business rationale must be sent to recruitmentpolicestaff@thamesvalley.police.uk quoting the reference number for the role.

Please note: Shift allowance, on-call or other job related allowances from the previous role will not be protected unless they are attached to the new role for the duration of the secondment.

You can contact the TVLRF Partnership Manager (Ben Axelsen) with any role specific questions on 07966 065989. If you have any queries please contact the Recruitment Team at RecruitmentPoliceStaff@thamesvalley.police.uk quoting reference 18238. We will endeavour to respond to your query as quickly as possible.

Please use Google Chrome when completing your application, wherever possible, as this will enhance performance.

The closing date for enquiries and receipt of completed applications is Sunday 3rd October 2021. Please note this date may be subject to change or the vacancy may be removed if a high number of applications are received.
