We welcome applications from substantive Police/Detective Constables for an exciting opportunity to join our South East Regional Organised Crime (SEROCU) Source Handling Unit.

You will be responsible for the recruitment, maintenance and development of covert sources for the South East region. In line with the Regional Control strategy, you will target identified threats, vulnerabilities and intelligence gaps in the region. You will establish effective working relationships with customers and relevant partner agencies/national organisations.

The successful applicant will be a qualified Source Handler. You will also have sound knowledge of investigations of serious crime, CPIA and disclosure issues involving sensitive intelligence along with communication skills.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to Enhanced level. Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals. This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.

The first stage of the assessment process is the short list. Successfully short listed applicants will be invited for interview.  Successful candidates will then be required to attend and pass a Pre-training Assessment. The Pre-training assessment will ensure that the applicants possess the right attributes to recruit CHIS in order to be nominated to undertake the relevant course.  Applicants are required to pass this course to continue within the role.

Hampshire officers need to complete an AD277 alongside their application. All officers are required to complete the Recommendation for Appointment form (enclosed with the advert).
