Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan Force in England and Wales, covering the counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire and serving a population of in excess of 2 million with an extensive network of roads and motorways. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Driver Training Team and contribute to making our staff, external partners and communities safer by providing high quality Driver Training up to and including Advanced Driving competencies in line with National Occupational Standards and Authorised Professional Practice.

Successful applicants will be trained to deliver a range of Driver Training Courses aimed at providing officers and staff with the necessary driving and risk management skills. You will play a key part in managing driver’s attitudes and behaviors and ensuring standards of driving meet National and Force standards.

The successful candidate will have been trained up to and have attained the minimum standard of either:

  • a Standard Response Driver in a Police Service, or an equivalent standard in a related Emergency Service, and have recent experience of using those skills.

OR

  • a Qualified and registered DVSA Approved Driving Instructor - and has used that qualification in recent training functions.

You should have a strong desire and proven experience of developing other people through facilitating consistent and effective learning, and/or coaching that meets defined objectives and ensures valid and reliable assessment.

You must be self-motivated with an ability to develop yourself and embody the TVP Code of Ethics, taking account of organisational needs, national policy, risk assessments and the Quality Assurance Framework. You will have a proven ability to respond to individual learning needs by adopting a range of training styles, providing timely and appropriate advice and feedback (written and verbal), and by presenting information and ideas to people effectively and persuasively in accordance with current policy and procedures. Excellent communication skills, IT literacy with proficient use of Microsoft Office packages is essential.

Please note successful candidates will be expected to attend and pass the TVP   Trainer Development Programme (TDP) which incorporates the QCF level 3   Certificate in   L&D and QCF level 3 Assessor Award; successful candidates will also be   expected to achieve an appropriate standard to deliver Police Standard   Response Courses within 6 months of appointment. You should be able to   evidence working towards or attainment of these qualifications or their  equivalents and must be prepared to undergo further relevant training and   development as required. A full UK driving licence is essential, as is the   requirement to meet the National medical and eyesight standards. You will be   required to travel to different locations across the Force and may undertake occasional   evening and weekend working as determined by business need.
