Transferee PC Firearm Officer (Protection Group)

Joint Operations Unit (JOU)
Aylesbury, Banbury, Windsor
Full & Part Time
Permanent

Outside of the Metropolitan Police, Thames Valley Police has the largest protection commitment in the UK.

Protection Group is responsible for providing armed protection at several key sites across our region.  The individuals that receive protection include members of the Royal Family, the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet.  The department also provides close protection to Royalty and VIPs visiting the force area in support of the Metropolitan Police.  Work within the Protection Group is extremely varied; combined with an attractive shift pattern and opportunities for further firearms specialisation, it presents a compelling challenge.

Opportunities are now open for officers to directly transfer into AFO Protection Group.

You will need to be currently:
• accredited to national standards with proven level of competence in training and operational deployment
• Attain the minimum national fitness levels – AFO/ARV
• Medically fit for role profile
• Serving in a recognised Home Office Force
• Further evidence to demonstrate performance, attendance; ethical standards and professionalism will be required
• Show commitment and enthusiasm to serve the communities within our JOU area
• Successfully completed probationary period

There may be future opportunities to up-skill to ARV/SFO/CTSFO but this is not guaranteed and will be subject to a competitive selection process.

Applicants are expected to show a degree of flexibility in terms of postings.

Those officers transferring will not be financially assisted with any relocation costs, additionally there are limitations on residential locations and travelling distances from JOU operating centres (further information is available from Recruiting/HR and Team Managers).

All Officers must attend a two week induction course at our Police Training Centre in Sulhamstead near Reading. Accommodation is available.
