Permanent

We welcome applications from substantive Constables and Detective Constables for an opportunity to join our SEROCU Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU).

The Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU) is part of a national infrastructure set up to provide a single intelligence picture of the threat posed by serious and organised crime in the South East. This drives operational business and helps develop opportunities for enforcement activity. It specifically provides a gateway function to access sensitive equities and manages sensitive intelligence on behalf of the forces of the South East.

As a Covert Intelligence Officer, you will undertake proactive and reactive intelligence investigations in relation to serious and organised criminal activity. You will receive and assess intelligence and information within the SIU, ensuring any high risk issues are rapidly identified.

This is a highly sensitive intelligence role, where you will deliver operational outcomes that protect the public without compromising the source of the intelligence. You will be required to successfully complete the Product Handling Course (training will be provided).

You will have previous experience working with full range of covert tactics and able to demonstrate high standards of confidentiality and flexibility. You will have excellent communication skills and experience working with partner agencies.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to Developed Vetting (DV) level. Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals. This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home. For this reason a full UK Driving Licence is considered essential to the role.

This role is also available as a Police Staff vacancy (Job Ref: 17102)
