Our Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU) is part of a national infrastructure set up to provide a single intelligence picture of the threat posed by serious and organised crime in the South East. This drives operational business and helps develop opportunities for enforcement activity. It specifically provides a gateway function to access sensitive equities and manages sensitive intelligence on behalf of the forces of the South East.

As a Covert Intelligence Officer, you will receive manage, develop and disseminate sensitive intelligence within the Sensitive Intelligence Unit in support of level 2/3 covert operations. You will provide assistance to the investigation of serious crime, including kidnaps, threat to life incidents, product contamination and siege situations.

This is a highly sensitive intelligence role, where you will deliver operational outcomes that protect the public without compromising the source of the intelligence. You will be required to successfully complete the Product Handling Course (training will be provided).

You will have previous experience working with full range of covert tactics and able to demonstrate high standards of confidentiality and flexibility. You will also have experience developing working relations with different organisations / departments.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to Developed Vetting (DV) level. Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals. This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home. For this reason a full UK Driving Licence is considered essential to the role.
