Applications are invited from substantive Inspectors and substantive Sergeants seeking promotion, for a Detective Inspector, as part of Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTP SE)/South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU).

The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT) is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from Her Majesties Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIO’s) who are expected to work within the regional establishments and, together with HMPPS, are required to identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders.

In addition to working to identified national and regional priorities, PIO’s are the gateway between law enforcement and the prison service and will provide support, advice and expertise in relation to all prison related matters.

You will be responsible for the management of resources ensuring an effective and efficient provision of service to support the prisons network / HMPPS and key stakeholders within the region and, where applicable, nationally for both Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime.

You will have proven leadership abilities and experience of intelligence systems and procedures together with associated legislation. You will have a sound knowledge of the National Intelligence Model (NIM) and experience in the submission of RIPA authorities and management of associated product.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home. You must be prepared to be security cleared to Developed Vetting (DV).

For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants who do not hold or acquire the appropriate security clearances (which may include STRAP) and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals. As such, in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) Officers will also need to complete and upload the Recommendation for Appointment Form (enclosed with the job advert).

Officers applying on promotion - in addition to the above you will be required to upload a ‘Why Me, Why Now’ letter which outlines your motivation and suitability for the role at this time. Your evidence should also demonstrate the relevant behaviours, skills, knowledge and experience in relation to your capability in the rank of Inspector in accordance with the core competencies (CVF). The letter must be no more than two (2) sides of A4. The margins must not be modified from 2.54cm. All evidence outside the margins should be removed. You will also be required to upload your AO/DO Reference Form and latest PDR (including CPD). You can upload the AO/DO Reference Form in the ‘Line Managers Approval Form’ section. TVP Officers seeking promotion will not need to upload Recommendation for Appointment Form (enclosed with the job advert).
