The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT) is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from Her Majesties Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

We are recruiting for Prison Intelligence Officers to join our SERPIT team. You will work with HMPPS and other custodial service providers to identify and exploit intelligence opportunities, establishing good working relationships to manage good order and discipline across the prison estate.

You will be the point of contact between law enforcement and the prison service, providing support, advice and expertise. You will support the management of prisoners who present a risk to our national security, commit or facilitate organised crime. You will also effectively gather and develop intelligence from HMPPS and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime as well as sharing relevant intelligence with law enforcement and partner agencies.

You will support the management of risk in relation to offenders approaching their release dates through a structured multi-agency screening process. You will provide support and training to HMPPS in relation to intelligence and policing investigations. You will also support with CHIS recruitment in the prison estate, whilst supporting and managing covert tactics within the prison estate in line with the OPT requirements.

To ensure focus on the highest regional priorities, you may need to travel to different establishments to deliver services effectively. You will be expected to manage a caseload of intelligence developments, which you will be held accountable for their progress.

You will have proven experience collating and assessing information in a threat, harm and risk area of business, and presenting the information in a concise, accurate and timely manner. You will also have excellent communication and time management skills including the ability to work under pressure.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to enhanced level. Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals. This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.

Please note Hampshire officers need to complete an AD277 alongside their application via Hampshire HR.

All officers will be required to upload latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent CPD record/Focus Feedback meeting) and a copy of your Training Record. You will be also required to upload the Recommendation for Appointment Form (enclosed with the Job Advert) in the ‘Line Managers Approval Form’.
