We welcome applications from substantive Constables and Detective Constables for a position as a Cover Officer with South East Covert Operations Unit (SECOU).

As a Cover Officer, you will be allocated to an undercover operation by the COM-UC and will be responsible for Under Cover Officers security and welfare. You will ensure interactions between the UCO and the operational team happen in accordance with agreed sterile corridor arrangements. You will provide expertise on covert policing techniques for Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) on line operations.

You will act as the conduit between the Operational Team and the undercover operative. You will undertake the administration, co-ordination and facilitation of undercover operations and provide expertise on covert policing techniques including tactical advice and guidance to senior investigating officers and those who manage undercover on line operations.

You must be trained as an undercover Operative (Foundation or Advanced) or have relevant Covert Policing Experience in UC or CHIS environment. You must have successfully passed or have the ability to pass the College of Policing Cover Officer course to enable them to retain their Position within SECOU. Experience of investigating serious crime, the use of undercover policing investigative technique and in the practical application of Risk Assessment are essential to the role.

This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.
