Thames Valley Police is one of the largest police forces in England and Wales. We are expanding our employment law team, based in Kidlington, and seek an experienced  employment lawyer to join us..

The role

Thames Valley Police is seeking to recruit an experienced employment lawyer. The successful candidate will currently have a workload consisting of  employment tribunals, early conciliations, advisory work in relation to a myriad of employment law issues such as TUPE, discrimination law, change management and collaborative working. Working under the direction of the Employment Law Manager as part of a small cohesive team of employment lawyers you will be a proactive lawyer with the ability to manage your own caseload and deliver effective employment law advice to senior managers and HR professionals in a clear and technically adept manner.  

The requirements

A professional legal qualification and current practising certificate as a Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with strong communication skills attention to detail, you will have:

  • case management skills in relation to Employment Tribunal proceedings
  • knowledge and experience of negotiating settlement agreements/COT 3 agreements
  • experience of providing clear written advice to senior managers and HR professionals, identifying the impact of legislative changes for an organisation and advising upon important developments in case law
  • the ability to work using their own initiative to advise on all aspects of employment law and legislation
  • excellent written, inter-personal and advocacy skills in order to properly represent the Chief Constable
  • the ability to work as part of an effective multidisciplinary team but within a small specialist unit
  • the ability and commitment to promote equality, diversity and human rights in working practices
  • good computer and keyboard skills, knowledge and experience of administrative procedures including compilation and presentation of statistics
  • the ability to be mobile across the Force when undertaking investigation and court attendance
