Chief Firearms Instructor – Joint Operations Unit, Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary

Sulhamstead/Bicester/Netley by arrangement

This is open to suitably qualified serving police officers from across England and Wales.

An opportunity has arisen for the Post of Chief Firearms Instructor for the Joint Operations Unit of Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary.

The CFI is responsible for matters relating to Firearms Training within the JOU which is one of the largest Firearms Departments outside of London.

Key responsibilities include:

To ensure the Joint Operations Unit (JOU) remains fully compliant with all conditions of the Firearms Training Licence issued by The College of Policing

To ensure that a full training plan is developed for all different firearms department that is fully compliant with the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum and JOU STRA

Development of all Firearms Training to ensure the JOU’s capability is enhanced in line with local and national requirements

Maintain the required standards to ensure that the firearms training licence is fully compliant with the standards required by The College of Policing.

To advise JOU SMT were appropriate on all firearms matters that may be impacted upon by the NPFTC and Licence conditions.

The post holder will have CFI responsibility for the South East Region CTSFO Network.

Essential requirements prior to appointment: - The post holder must hold and maintain a National firearms instructor qualification (NFI)

Essential Role based Training:- The Post holder will be required to become a Tactical Firearms Commander if not already suitably qualified.

The job is within the Joint Operations Unit of Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary so any external applicant can be posted within either Thames Valley Police or Hampshire Constabulary by mutual agreement.

Internal applicants would normally stay with the home force unless there is a specific operational need for them to transfer forces and this is not expected in this case.

All roles are available for flexible working including job sharing and part-time unless there are legitimate operational / business reasons why this cannot be accommodated.

For Internal candidates in a Force critical post, there is an expectation that you will remain in that post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary.
