The role

 

In this role you will develop, test and document new and enhance existing software solutions in accordance with high level solution designs and agreed standards. You will use industry standard technical tools, methodologies and techniques in an effective way to investigate, analyse and improve solution development. You will be expected to produce documentation, and communicate using a variety of concepts to convey technical information to varied audiences when appropriate. Working with fellow developers and team leaders to estimate, plan and deliver effective project deliveries that make a tangible difference to front-line policing and back-office functions across Hampshire, Thames Valley and the South-Easterly region.

 

We are looking for an individual who is proficient in the detailed solution design and build using a mixed variety of software platforms, technologies and languages (Azure, IIS, WCF, .NET, MVC, C#, JavaScript, XML/XSL, JSON, T-SQL) and adept in the use of IDE’s and development toolsets (Microsoft Visual Studio, Test Manager, SSDT, TFS, Azure Portal) to assist in the creation of efficient, standardised solutions.

In addition, experience of utilising Modern BI tools to develop effective and insightful visualisations, identifying and providing business efficiencies (Business Objects, SSRS, Power BI),

 

 

The essentials

 

  • Experienced software developer and systems designer of complex ICT developments from initial concept through development and implementation to operation and support.
  • Expert in the detailed solution design and build using multiple complex software languages or toolsets e.g. Web Services, .Net, XSLT, XML, SQL, Business Objects, Microsoft Visual Studio etc.
  • Expert in the technical delivery of solutions during the software development lifecycle and the application and adherence to local and industry development standards ensuring that the business fit of the solution is accounted for.
  • Good practical knowledge of ICT infrastructure, software development and maintenance methods, tools and techniques and is conversant with ICT strategies, policies and standards.
  • Experienced and has a proven track record in coaching and mentoring developers, undertaking detailed peer reviews of code, component designs and documents (Internal or external staff) to ensure quality of component delivery.
  • Proficient in application development methods, techniques and standards, organised and documented sets of techniques, intended to facilitate the structured development of applications e.g. Lean and Agile.
  • Proficient in database software which enables the user to create, populate and manipulate data structures e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL.
  • Proficient in operational / service architecture knowledge of the IT infrastructure (hardware, databases, operating systems, local area networks etc.) and the IT applications and service processes used within our organisation.
  • Proficient in structured reviews methods and techniques including reviews of technical diagrams, test plans, business cases and any other key deliverables e.g. peer review, formal technical review.
  • Proficient in business analysis techniques which help in modelling and understanding a business and its operation, e.g.: functional business models, statistical process control, relational data modelling, use case.
  • Must have capability to travel to different locations across the Forces and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. For this reason a full UK driving licence is considered essential.
