Technology Services is a function within the Joint ICT Department of Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police. We are responsible for keeping the blue lights on and delivering innovative solutions to ensure Police Officers and staff can access key services that allow us to stay online, connected and ahead of the game. We are looking for dynamic technologists to help support our next generation infrastructure environment. 

Working within our Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) team, you will be responsible for supporting different infrastructure platforms, and delivery mechanisms, including Cloud, IaaS and hybrid. Working with Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Microsoft Azure and VMware NSX to name a few. Our security engineers are responsible for the provisioning, deployment, configuration and administration of the network security hardware and software. 

You will play a key role in supporting our business-as-usual initiative responsible for resolving technical issues, assist with lifecycle management of existing solutions and carry out routine housekeeping and maintenance checks to maximize system availability. You will apply functional knowledge and technical support to our various network offerings and contribute towards innovative solutions to our customers. 

 

It is essential you are experienced in the following areas: 

  • Delivering and supporting virtual, physical and cloud-based infrastructures, within an ITIL focussed environment. 
  • At least 3 years’ practical experience in the configuration and support of enterprise level network infrastructure. 
  • Configuration and support of network security technologies including, but not limited to;
    • Firewall security rule management
    • VPN administration
    • Web content inspection
    • Cloud networking technologies such as Azure or NSX 
  • Ability to utilise network management tools to support customers’ networks, and interpret, diagnose and where necessary remediate any issues highlighted. 
  • Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills to investigate, diagnose, and rectify issues relating to the infrastructure technologies. 
  • Must have strong communication skills including experience in communicating to Senior Management level. 
  • Ability to produce high quality technical documentation including;
    • Standard operating procedures
    • Knowledge base articles
    • Detailed troubleshooting documentation 

You would be expected to be a Subject Matter Expert in at least three of the following: 

  • Cisco IOS
  • Juniper JUNOS
  • Checkpoint Firewall
  • F5 load balancers
  • Palo Alto appliances
  • Microsoft Azure/O365
  • VMWare NSX 

Desirable technical skills: 

  • Practical experience working with third parties (ISP’s or vendors) to manage a corporate network infrastructure.
