A vacancy has arisen to lead Counter Terrorism Policing across the South East as the Head of Unit. We welcome applications from substantive Chief Superintendents and substantive Superintendents supported for promotion, for the role of Detective Chief Superintendent Head of CTPSE (Counter Terrorism Policing South East).

The Role

The successful candidate will work to the ACC South East Lead for CTPSE and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU), and will act as the regional lead for Counter Terrorism Policing in the South East.

In this role you will provide strategic oversight and coordination of the delivery of core services across the four strands of the UK’s Counter Terrorism strategy, known as “CONTEST”, throughout the South East region.  You will also provide support to the CTP South West (Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit) in line with the CTP Network buddying arrangements. You will be required to develop and maintain key relationships with strategic partners, and maintain operational and strategic links with the South East forces to assist effective dialogue with local communities on all aspects of CONTEST.

As the Head of CTPSE you will be responsible for overseeing the development and leadership of a skilled workforce across the South East, ensuring effective resilience and leading on diversity and inclusion to foster a culture which recognises and celebrates success.

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills, including negotiating with and influencing others.  They should also have a good understanding of Human Rights, Terrorism Act, PACE, RIPA, Criminal Law, Disclosure and Court Processes, and of JESSIP principles. 

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.

How to Apply

It is important that potential candidates have support from their respective Chief Officer in the light of current performance and career development plans.

There are different application requirements for Substantive Officers and those Officers applying for Promotion. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the entire application and evidence will be drawn from applicants’ career profile, chief officer recommendation and latest PDR.

Hampshire officers need to complete an AD277 alongside their application.

Substantive officers will be shortlisted against the Essential Criteria and should submit an online application form.  You will be required to upload your latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent copy of your CPD record/Focus Feedback meeting) and a copy of your Training Record. You will be also required to upload the Recommendation for Appointment Form (enclosed with the Job Advert) in the ‘Line Managers Approval Form’.

In addition to this information, officers applying on promotion should also submit a ‘Why Me, Why Now’ letter which outlines your motivation and suitability for the role at this time. Your evidence should also demonstrate the relevant behaviours, skills, knowledge and experience in relation to your capability at this rank in accordance with the core competencies (CVF) Step up Criteria (information enclosed within the advert). The letter must be no more than two (2) sides of A4. The margins must not be modified from 2.54cm. All evidence outside the margins should be removed. You will also be required to upload your latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent CPD record//Focus Feedback meeting) and the Police Officer Promotion Reference Form.

Security Clearances

Security is of paramount importance to us due to the nature of the role. You need to be a British National and resided in the UK for the past five years for Security Clearance (SC) and ten years for Developed Vetting (DV)  You will be required to successfully pass and maintain the relevant security clearance in order to perform the role.
