PC - Surveillance Trainer

Purpose of Role:

In this role you will provide specialist expertise that enables delivery of a range of surveillance training and accreditation to police officers, dedicated surveillance officers, officers involved in covert operations, counter-terrorism, serious and organised crime, members of Royal Military Police, UK Border Agency and other Law Enforcement Agencies in support of high risk operations to secure evidence and gather intelligence.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design surveillance training to meet specialist organisational needs.
  • Deliver high level surveillance training and ensure valid and reliable assessment standards for tutorials/tests etc.
  • Provide structured feedback and development plans for students and seek advice when they are failing to achieve competence.
  • Provide advice and support to students and their managers.
  • Prepare concise and appropriate course reports and student assessments.
  • Provide guidance and support on the delivery of surveillance courses / training to maintain quality approval standards.
  • Contribute to the liaison with internal and external training providers to ensure best practice.
  • Maintain professional development and operational competence (including keeping up to date with legislation, case law, changes in policy and procedures, technical advances etc.)

Essential role based training:

  • Level 3 AET Award in Education and Training and Level 3 Award in Assessing vocationally related achievement
  • CPD will also be required in order to meet the College of Policing’s L4 TEP Curriculum Standard

Essential Training Prior to Appointment:

  • Advanced Police Drive qualification (current)
  • Q1 mobile surveillance qualification
  • AND qualified in one of the below courses:
    • Rural surveillance
    • SMART surveillance
    • Q8 surveillance
    • Motorcycle surveillance

This role does not have a restricted category. Each Officer will be assessed on a case by case basis. If you are applying for a specialist role, you will need to demonstrate the relevant up to date experience.  If you are unsure of which category you fall under please refer to the Adjusted/Recuperative Guidelines for more information attached.

If you are currently in a Force critical post, there is an expectation that you will remain in that post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles (or 18 months for custody sergeants).

Interviews will be conducted in line with the Police Officer Posting Guidance.

Candidates may be required to pass vetting and OHU or attend assessments and courses for this role. If any of these are failed the candidate will be posted back to a response role on an LPA. Postings are determined in accordance with organisational need although consideration will be given to personal circumstances.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice.
