Cloud solutions, mobile platforms, digital case files, virtual desktop infrastructure… gone are the days when IT was seen as a ‘support function’. IT is a critical enabler supporting front line policing, crime investigation and linking with partners such as the Criminal Justice service. We have now combined the expertise from both Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary into a single Department servicing both forces.

If you want a role with a genuine sense of purpose, a more interactive and engaging experience and a unique opportunity to shape our future technology - we believe you’ve found it.

Your task will be to provide expert security advice to Technical Architects and Project Managers to ensure the implementation of pragmatic, cost-effective cyber security controls and monitoring. You are required to identify technical information risks and propose improvements. You will need to find new and emerging technologies and evaluate how these can be used securely to improve communication. You will provide the initial response and management of IT Security incidents across both Forces and oversee the accumulation of information to ensure the estate remains safe.

The essentials

  • Effective communication skills, dealing with customers and stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proven advanced user skills in typical office computer applications.

  • Appropriate qualification or significant experience in relevant disciplines, e.g. IT Security, Information Assurance, Information Governance, Data Protection.

  • Technical understanding of IT systems and familiarity with Cloud and Mobile technologies.

  • Appropriate professional qualification in relevant discipline, e.g. MSc Information Security, CISSP, CESG Certified Professional, etc.

  • Appropriate technical qualifications (such as: Security+, CEH, MCSE, CCNA etc.)

  • An understanding of the Government Security Classification Scheme.

  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage workload whilst remaining positive and motivated.
