Volunteering as a Special Inspector where you will be leading, motivating and mentoring officers in their duties is a challenging and rewarding role. Leading and building a strong, successful team will have a huge impact on crime and anti-social behaviour in the local community. As part of the Local Policing Area (LPA) Specials management team you will work side by side with regular officers to ensure the effective deployment of the Special Constables within a Local Policing Area.

A thorough knowledge of operational police work and the ability to plan are essential to the success of this role and you will get full support to enable you to reach your full potential as a Special Inspector.

Applicants must be a Special Inspector or a substantive Special Sergeant with suitable experience. Applicants can be a serving Special wih another force looking for transfer / promotion (Please note you must live within 20 miles of Bracknell, Loddon Valley or Wokingham to be eligible to apply).

What will my duties be?

This is a demanding role which has operational, supervisory and leadership responsibility for Special Sergeants and Special Constables across the LPA. You will have regular liaison with members of the Special Constabulary and the regular police service to ensure the effectiveness of the Special Constabulary within the LPA.

You will be part of a committed team and have a key leadership role. In addition to leading by example you will provide support and direction to Special Sergeants and Special Constables. This will include leading and motivating officers in their regular patrol duties and in achieving Fit for Accompanied Patrol (FIP).

You will be responsible for day to day operational issues including planning of operations as well as supporting and supervising Special Constables on LPA related issues. You will ensure that members of the Special Constabulary are kept informed of relevant changes in legislation and policies, and address performance, welfare and conduct issues.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary.
