Cloud solutions, Automatic Number Plate recognition systems, Crown Prosecution e-files, virtual desktop infrastructure… gone are the days when IT was seen as a ‘support function’. IT is a critical enabler supporting front line policing, crime investigation and linking with partners such as the criminal justice service.  We have now combined the expertise from both Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary into a single department servicing both forces.

The role

In this role you will be responsible for the design, documentation, installation, upgrading, operation, control, maintenance and effective use of server, storage and client delivery infrastructure to deliver service improvement and / or cost savings. You will be taking the lead on complex design and installation projects undertaking peer review including architectural review and quality assurance boards. You will be required to ensure that operational problems are identified and resolved to support delivery of agreed service levels, within the ITIL framework.

 

The essentials

• Expert knowledge in a broad range of technical server, storage and client delivery infrastructure technologies with specialism in one or more areas acquired through academic qualification or further professional training and development.

• Able to understand and articulate how the application of ICT technology impacts the organisation, business objectives and processes, ideally within policing.

• Able to achieve significant outcomes through influence and persuasion rather than through direct line authority.

• Effective written and oral communication skills, customer focused, who is a flexible, adaptable, problem solver and able to work systematically within a team and with little direct supervision.

• Proven understanding of IT operating infrastructure, and ITIL.

• Willing to understand new partner systems.

• Good understanding of ICT Operations Management and ITIL Methodology.

• Must have capability to travel to different locations across the Forces and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. For this reason a full UK driving licence is considered essential.
