Cloud solutions, Automatic Number Plate recognition systems, Crown Prosecution e-files, virtual desktop infrastructure… gone are the days when IT was seen as a ‘support function’. IT is a critical enabler supporting front line policing, crime investigation and linking with partners such as the criminal justice service.  We have now combined the expertise from both Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary into a single department servicing both forces.

The role

Your task will be to act as the senior design influence in the area of force infrastructure. You will be responsible for leading design efforts for projects which requires expert guidance on infrastructure design. You will need to engage with suppliers & internal teams to confirm that their technical delivery is consistent with agreed designs and outcomes. This role requires extensive knowledge on the businesses’ infrastructure, the available technologies, and on the skills of the resources available to implement them. Assist the Chief Architect with the running of the team.

 

The essentials

• Proven background in architecture, its design & management.

• Familiarity with infrastructure implementation patterns/fluency with architectural language.

• Fluency with infrastructure concepts (e.g. System, Service, Performance, Support, Flow analysis, Security) for at least one of the following categories - Compute, Storage, Networks.

• Familiar with project management in connection with solution delivery.

• Proven communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships, both internally and externally.

• Flexible, positive approach to work commitments, with the ability to travel around the force.

• Must have capability to travel regularly to different locations across Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary. For this reason a full UK driving licence is considered essential.
