Technical Development Unit
Oxfordshire/Fareham/Crawley

£46,618 per annum

Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Specialist to join the growing Technical Development Unit (TDU) within SEROCU.

Working closely with the Technical Surveillance Unit, intelligence teams, investigating officers, and others, the TDU is responsible for developing, advising on, and deploying advanced technical capabilities in support of complex or serious and organised crime investigations across the South East, supporting both the ROCU and local Forces.

The Unit has a high degree of freedom to test and develop technical solutions in a Law Enforcement context and actively supports other units in developing their own capabilities. Wherever possible the Unit also develops and provides capabilities into other crime types that affect the residents of the South East such as stalking, domestic abuse, and exploitation.

The new Technical Specialist role seeks to expand the teams skillsets and capabilities with expertise in areas such as Radio Frequency technologies and their exploitation, and computer and network forensics, to name a few. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with various teams across SEROCU and its local Forces (Thames Valley, Hampshire, Surrey, and Sussex) in order to provide specialised tactical technical advice at an early stage of investigations with a view to identifying opportunities to deploy technical solutions to achieve operational objectives. Where technical solutions do not yet exist the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing a suitable solution in collaboration with the team or colleagues across UK Law Enforcement.

Successful candidates will be those that have a genuine passion for technology, understand or makes every effort to understand how technology at their disposal works, enjoys learning about new and improved technical assets, is keen to learn new skills and shows a willingness to take on a technical challenge. Due to the varied workload, including long-term development projects and spontaneous operational deployments, it is considered essential for the successful candidate to have a high degree of personal flexibility and the ability to work under their own initiative to tight timescales.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result, you will be required to travel for business purposes across the South East and occasionally throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.  You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC.  In order to achieve this, you must have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.

You can find more information about security vetting here.
