An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified individual to join the South East Covert Operations Unit (SECOU), a team that is part of the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) hosted by Thames Valley Police on behalf of the Region.

The successful applicant will supervise the effective operation of the staff working within SECOU and deputise when directed in the absence of the SECOU Detective Inspector.

You will undertake the administration, co-ordination and facilitation of undercover operations in the region including the provision of expert tactical advice to relevant parties in aspects of covert law enforcement in general and undercover operations in particular.

You will also be responsible for the management of relevant SECOU staff ensuring the provision of suitable training, guidance and direction and will monitor, assess and report on the performance and skills of relevant SECOU staff within a professional development review regime.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the appropriate and safe use of SECOU undercover officers for other units and will deploy as a SECOU undercover officer where relevant as part of the National Undercover Working Group structure.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience in the use of undercover policing investigative techniques, including the practical application of relevant legislation. In addition, applicants must be conversant with the latest developments within covert policing on a national, regional and force level and be willing to complete the nationally recognised Cover Officers course.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and ethical decision making.

It is essential that the post holder has successfully attended a nationally recognised training course for Foundation and/or Advanced undercover officers as a student.

Applicants must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to work on initiative, be flexible and willing to work unsociable hours without notice. You must be prepared to be security cleared to SC.
