Applications are invited from substantive constables for the post of PC Surveillance within the South East Counter Terrorism Unit (SECTU). The purpose of the role is to undertake covert, mobile, technical and foot surveillance in order to obtain intelligence and evidence to assist an investigation or operation.

Main duties include:-

  • Undertake covert surveillance as authorised under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 200, and Human Rights legislation.

  • Debrief covert surveillance operations on a daily basis, ensuring the evidential log is accurate.

  • Develop self and colleagues by constructive assessment of effectiveness on operations undertaken, identifying both positive and negative performance.

  • Comply with the constraints imposed by relevant legislation and National policies in particular RIPA 200, Security Service Act 1989, ACPO Surveillance Manual and Human Rights Act.

    The successful applicant will hold current Level One Surveillance accreditation and will be a current Advanced Car Driver with basic working knowledge of relevant guidance within the ACPO Surveillance Manual 2006, including RIPA and associated authorities. You will have also attended National/Local log and disclosure course.

You may be required to travel for business purposes on occasion and demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours, and you must be prepared to be security cleared to an enhanced level.

For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants who do not hold or acquire appropriate security clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary.
