Applications are invited from substantive Constables, for the role of PC Trainer (Driver) within the Thames Valley Police Driver Training Team (as part of Learning & Professional Development).

Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan Force in England and Wales, covering the counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire and serving a population of in excess of 2 million with an extensive network of roads and motorways. The purpose of this role is to contribute to making our staff and communities safer by providing high quality Driver Training to Police Officers and Staff, and External Agencies across the Force in line with National Occupational Standards and Authorised Professional Practice.

Applicants must be qualified as an Advanced Driver Trainer (via a recognised Driver Training Development Programme) and have recent experience of delivering Advanced Driver Training (Inc. TPaC). Attainment of a QCF Level 3 Certificate in L&D and a QCF Level 3 Award in Assessing is a requirement of this role and training will be provided where necessary.

This role involves delivery of a range of Driver Training Courses aimed at providing officers and staff with the necessary driving and risk management skills at Basic, Standard and Advanced level, including TPaC. You will play a key part in managing driver’s attitude and behaviour and ensuring standards of driving meet National and Force standards. This will include taking responsibility for the development of individual courses. This role requires a passion for driver training, an in-depth understanding of risk, a high level of skill and a strong desire to achieve exacting standards. You should have a strong desire and proven experience of developing other people to reach their potential through facilitating consistent and effective learning, and/or coaching that meets defined objectives and ensures valid and reliable assessment.

You must be highly motivated, flexible and possess excellent presentation and communication skills. You must be able to take account of organisational needs, National Policy, Risk Assessments, Health & Safety requirements and work within the department’s own Quality Assurance Framework. The successful applicants must be open to change and have a proven ability to respond to individual learning needs. Experience of providing timely and appropriate advice and feedback (written and verbal), and presenting information and ideas effectively and persuasively is essential. IT literacy with proficient use of Microsoft Office packages is also essential.

This role can be based from a number of sites across TVP, but you will be required to travel to different locations to deliver training across the Force and may undertake occasional evening and weekend working as determined by business need.

As this is a specialist post, there is an expectation you will remain in post for a minimum of two years before applying to change roles.
