Digital Forensic Services are vital to helping our officers to combat crime, protect the vulnerable, enable safer communities, and make a difference that really matters. Thames Valley Police is making a multi-year investment in our Forensic Investigation Unit and is transforming our wide array of forensic disciplines and in particular digital forensics, to create a forward looking, accredited service which delivers proportionate timely services that support effective crime investigation for TVP and other external organisations. 

As part of this transformation, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Digital Portfolio of Forensic Investigation Unit (FIU) as a Digital Forensic Technician.

Reporting to the Digital Forensic Unit Technical Supervisor, this role will aid the Digital Forensic Unit’s delivery of accredited (ISO 17025) digital forensic services to the Force and the Criminal Justice System. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven ability to work unsupervised/prioritise workload in order to meet deadlines and manage demands, frequently working under pressure sometimes dealing with distressing/disturbing material.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of a wide range of computer hardware/digital devices (mobile phones, software/operating systems and networks).
  • A good communicator – confident and assertive when required - who is able to deal with people at all levels both internally and external agencies, as well as working well in a team. Reducing highly technical issues into an easy to understand format. Whether within the team or with colleagues from other law enforcement agencies and external providers or advising colleagues, senior officers, barristers and the Judiciary.
  • Proven ability to maintain accurate contemporaneous logs and records in a manner that can be easily retrieved by others. Good written skills/previous experience of provision of statistical information to a high level of accuracy, with a methodical approach and ability to analyse and produce solutions to problems.
  • Able to recognise sensitive information and maintain discretion and confidentiality.

Maintain a high degree of integrity and trust when dealing with sensitive and Government Security Marked information.

  • Ability to travel across Thames Valley/South East Region when required. Working hours and level of flexibility are specific to each role and will be discussed at interview. 

Along with all other posts in Force Crime, Intelligence and Specialist Operations Departments, this role will require an enhanced level of vetting.  

Selection will take the form of a panel interview, a knowledge test and a practical assessment.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner.
