Applications are invited from members of the Special Constabulary to join the Chief Officer Group (COG) in the position of Special Constabulary Deputy Chief Officer within Thames Valley Police.

This is both a challenging and rewarding role which supports the strategic leadership responsibility for the Special Constabulary with the Chief Officer within the Force, and as a representative of TVP SC regionally and nationally.

Reporting to the Chief Officer, Special Constabulary and Assistant Chief Constable, Local Policing, you will be part of the SC Chief Officer Group, made up of a committed team and will have a key leadership role. In addition to leading by example you will provide support and advice to our Local Police Areas on how to support and direct their Special Constables. You will proactively liaise with regular operational managers and ensure that members of the Special Constabulary are kept informed of relevant changes in legislation and policies.

Is it for me?

You must already be an attested Special Constable, who has proven experience in both Response and Neighbourhood Policing and have ability of leadership and have experience in strategic development. You will be an effective communicator, possess excellent organisational skills and have a demonstrable commitment to maximising the contribution of the Special Constabulary to achieving Force objectives and live within commutable distance of a Thames Valley Police Station.

There is no restriction to applicants of a certain rank, but you should have either at least 3 years’ service and be able to evidence a significant level of operational leadership or demonstrate equivalent experience in leadership and strategic direction.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary. Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.
