For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants who do not hold or acquire appropriate security clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals.

Applications are invited from substantive Superintendents or substantive Chief Inspectors for promotion to Superintendent rank in the role of Detective Superintendent, Intelligence (SECTU).

Brief details of the role are as follows

Working as member of the SECTU senior leadership team you will create the environment that enables all our staff to work together to keep people safe. You will specifically manage intelligence processes, collection and protection of sensitive sources in order to support operations and investigations of terrorism and domestic extremism. The purpose of the role includes:

  • To develop work streams that support the Prevent, Prepare, Protect and Pursue strands of the CONTEST strategy.
  • To manage the NIM CT tasking process for the region
  • To develop a full range of intelligence gathering opportunities (covert/overt) to support both investigative and community based interventions. Work with the regional Authorising Officer to manage the authorisation processes under RIPA ensuring integrity, necessity, proportionality and legality of CTU activity.
  • To manage and develop intelligence processes to ensure all information is captured which can be appropriately tasked through a coordinated process, both quick time and in a `business as usual’ pace.
  • To lead dynamic major terrorist investigations utilising all resources of the police service. Maintain audit of actions and decision records in policy files.

In the first instance, it is important that potential candidates discuss their application with their respective Chief Officer in the light of current performance and career development plans.

You may be required to travel for business purposes on occasion and demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours, and you must be prepared to be security cleared to Developed Vetting (DV).

Your evidence should also demonstrate the relevant behaviours, skills, knowledge and experience in relation to your capability in the rank of Superintendent in accordance with the Policing Professional Framework. You should also take the opportunity to demonstrate your operational proficiency and self-development. No more than 3 sides of A4.

  • Chief Officer recommendation for this role and, where appropriate, recommendation for promotion.

  • Career History and Qualifications (a proforma will be provided).

  • Latest PDR.

Process:

Applications from substantive superintendents will be prioritised in this process.

Shortlisting Panel

Part 1

  • The shortlisting panel will initially consider applications from substantive superintendents.

  • Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the entire application and evidence will be drawn from applicants’ career profile, guided letter, chief officer recommendation and latest PDR.

  • Successful candidates at the shortlisting stage will be invited to attend an Operational Pane 

    Part 2

  • The shortlisting panel will also consider applications from Detective Chief Inspectors seeking promotion in the event that there are no suitable substantive applications.

  • Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the entire application. Evidence will be drawn from applicants’ career profile, guided letter which should incorporate evidence against the required competencies for the rank of superintendent, Chief Officer recommendation and the latest PDR.

  • The Panel will be making their assessment against the seven policing professional framework competencies. You will be expected to demonstrate your operational proficiency and self-development and to recognise the importance of performance, ethical behaviour, service delivery, change, collaboration and value for money.

  • Candidates will be advised whether they will be invited to attend an Operational and Strategic Panel.

  • We are anticipating interviews will be held on the 23rd May 2017

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice.
