Cloud solutions, Automatic Number Plate recognition systems, Crown Prosecution e-files, virtual desktop infrastructure… gone are the days when IT was seen as a ‘support function’. IT is a critical enabler supporting front line policing, crime investigation and linking with partners such as the criminal justice service.  We have now combined the expertise from both Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary into a single department servicing both forces.

If you want a role with a genuine sense of purpose, a more interactive and engaging experience and a unique opportunity to shape our future technology - we believe you’ve found it.

The role

Your task is to carry out agreed operational procedures by maintaining efficient and effective IT systems. You will need to create and maintain documentation of supported and newly implemented systems and hardware to ensure knowledge transfer within the department. You are expected to help with the implementation and maintenance work, installation of software/hardware, and resolve issues using your natural problem-solving skills. You will need to ensure a timely response to requests for the support, resolution and management of systems according to agreed procedures. You will be expected to provide technical expertise by supporting projects through the implementation of servers and data in order to meet business objectives.

The essentials

• Able to understand how the application of ICT technology impacts the organisation, business objectives and processes.

• Able to articulate technical designs and principles to a non-technical audience.

• Proven ability to work in teams with little or no direct supervision as well as having good written and oral communication skills.

Must have capability to travel to different locations across the Forces, partner sites and suppliers and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. For this reason a full UK driving licence is considered essential.

• Has a good appreciation of the data centre environment and is able to use troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.

• Has a broad appreciation of structured cabling systems as well as Local Area Network (LAN) technologies.

• Possesses an understanding of Microsoft Server technologies as well as some knowledge of enterprise backup solutions and virtualisation.

In return, you’ll be joining an organisation that truly values its people, reflected in our range of benefits, positive culture and flexible working opportunities.
