An opportunity has arisen for a Media Viewing Officer to support the investigation of regional, national and international acts of terrorism and crime related offences and provide specialist linguist input when required. For this role, it is therefore essential for the candidate to read, write and interpret Arabic.  

In this role you will:

  • Participate in the gathering of evidence and intelligence during investigations, using bespoke software to interrogate seized devices relating to the case.
  • Be able to interpret and assess material that has Arabic content and provide statements where required in support of this work and attend court to give evidence as required.
  • Gather and develop intelligence using databases, keyword searches and software tools in line with the National Intelligence Model. Gather intelligence in respect of criminal behaviour and extremist, subversive and terrorist activities / offences.
  • View seized articles including CCTV / DVD, videos, CD, computers and any other audio or visual imagery. Prepare viewing logs and complete recording logs as required by Unit, national policy and CPIA procedure.

    The successful applicant will have the ability to undertake sensitive high profile enquiries with limited supervision and therefore exhibit high standards of integrity and professionalism. You will be able to demonstrate proven experience of producing detailed and accurate reports within tight timescales and be expected to gain an enhanced knowledge of terrorism issues. You will also be able to work through detailed areas of work whilst remaining focussed and providing attention to detail.

    IT literate, you will have knowledge of computer software applications, including a working knowledge of databases, operating systems, basic network technologies, internet technologies, spreadsheets and word processing. 

    You will be required to travel for business purposes and a possession of a full UK driving license is considered essential. You will be able to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours and you must be prepared to be security cleared to an enhanced level. Successful candidates will be required to undergo psychological screening as part of the clearances as viewing content will include graphic material.
