At Thames Valley Police, we depend on well maintained and efficient transportation to help us deliver our services to a large and diverse community throughout Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

Thames Valley Police Transport forms part of Chiltern Transport Consortium, consisting of Bedfordshire Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Hertfordshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police, that means we need skilled professionals ready to dedicate their time to ensure our combined fleet of over 3000 vehicles are always ready for action.

As part of a successful professional team you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing mechanical, electrical and electronic components of police vehicles and plant to agreed standards, carry out safety inspections, diagnostic testing and problem solving. You will also attend vehicle breakdowns and complete documentation as required including job sheets, service sheets, time sheets and stores requisitions.

Candidates must have a good standard of education, served a Motor Vehicle related apprenticeship and have obtained City and Guilds Motor Vehicle (Mechanical/Electrical) Technicians 1 and 2 accreditation or equivalent. You will have practical experience with modern engine management and computerised electronic control systems coupled with excellent diagnostic skills and familiarity with computer based information and diagnostic programmes and equipment. The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate recent experience as a qualified technician within a main dealership/similar type of organisation. With your focus on quality, health & safety and with good organisational and communication skills, both oral and written, you must be able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative. A full current driving licence is essential.

The working week is 44 hours (37 hours plus 7 hours contractual overtime) Monday to Friday; you will be expected to support a working pattern of 8am to 5.30pm Mon to Thurs and 8am to 4.30pm Fri (currently under review). Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner.
