Applications are invited from substantive constables and detective constables for an exciting and challenging opportunity within the South East Covert Operations Unit (SECOU). Police Officers will be qualified to UCA or UCF or have relevant UC or CHIS experience and have passed or have the ability to pass the College Of Policing Cover Course, to conduct UCOL operations targeting on-line child sex abuse.

On-line child sexual abuse is a national threat and tackling the people that target children for sexual abuse requires the use of specialist officers to engage with them to make them more susceptible to the due process of law and protect and safeguard children. The safety, security and welfare surrounding such officers is a vital aspect of tackling such crime.

The role of ‘Cover Officers’ is highly specialised and the successful applicant will be part of a small team forming part of a dedicated team tasked to confront this threat as a part of the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU).

The unit will operate from discreet premises located off the M27 in the Hampshire area. However, they may be required to deploy anywhere in the South East Region. The successful applicant must be willing to travel and work away from their current force area if required to do so.

The successful applicant will be trained as an Undercover Operative (Foundation or Advanced) or has relevant Covert Policing. You will have experience in UC or CHIS environment and has successfully passed or the ability to pass the College of Policing Cover Officer course to enable them to retain their position within SEROCU. An understanding that the Protection of Children is paramount.

You may be required to travel for business purposes on occasion and demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours. Therefore a full UK Driving Licence is considered essential. The role will require extensive driving of a variety of vehicles and will necessitate the post holder to undertake a driving assessment. You must also be prepared to be security cleared to an enhanced level. Successful applicants will be required to undergo psychological screening as part of checks for this particular role.
